1.MECHANISM OF ACTION

Hypertrehalosaemic Neuropeptide from Heliothis zea is a 10-amino acid neuropeptide (N-terminal Pyroglutamate, C-terminal amidated) belonging to the adipokinetic hormone (AKH) family, and it is the first moth hormone identified with dual biological activity. It exerts its effects by binding to specific G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed in insect fat body tissues, the primary site of energy metabolism regulation. Upon receptor activation, it triggers intracellular signaling cascades involving cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) as a second messenger, which activates downstream kinases. This signaling pathway promotes the mobilization of stored carbohydrates, primarily glycogen, and converts it into trehalose— the main sugar used for energy transport in insects— thereby exerting a potent hypertrehalosaemic effect

2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS

Investigation of AKH family signaling pathways and their roles in insect carbohydrate and lipid metabolism

Screening and validation of AKH receptor agonists/antagonists via in vitro assays (receptor binding, cAMP detection, and trehalose quantification assays)

Study of energy metabolism regulation in Heliothis zea and other lepidopteran insects, including flight-related energy mobilization and reproductive physiology

Development of insect cell-based models to evaluate the impact of neuropeptide signaling on fat body function and haemolymph composition

3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT

In insect fat body assays, it serves as a reliable positive control to evaluate the efficacy of AKH-targeted compounds for developing novel pest control agents

In Heliothis zea and lepidopteran models, it aids in elucidating the link between neuropeptide signaling and energy metabolism, providing insights for targeting pest life cycles (e.g., flight, reproduction)

It facilitates the characterization of AKH receptor expression in insect tissues, supporting the development of species-specific pest management strategies with minimal environmental impact
