Neuropeptide Y (13-36) (porcine) CAS NO.113662-54-7

<p>Neuropeptide Y (13-36) (porcine) (CAS NO. 113662-54-7) is a synthetic, 24-amino acid C-terminal fragment of porcine neuropeptide Y (NPY). This research-grade peptide represents a major enzymatically cleaved metabolite of the full-length hormone. It lacks the N-terminal region critical for Y1 receptor activation but retains the core structure required for binding to other NPY receptor subtypes, serving as an essen…

1.MECHANISM OF ACTION

This peptide fragment acts primarily as a selective agonist for the neuropeptide Y Y2 receptor (NPY Y2R). Due to the absence of the N-terminal Tyr¹-Pro²-Ser³-Lys⁴ motif, it has very low affinity for the Y1 receptor. Its binding to the presynaptic Y2 receptor activates the inhibitory Gi/o protein pathway, leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase and a decrease in intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels.

2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS

This product is indicated for focused research in neuropharmacology, cardiovascular biology, and metabolism where selective Y2 receptor activation is required. Key applications include: studying the physiological roles of presynaptic Y2 receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems, investigating Y2-mediated effects on anxiety, memory, and feeding behavior, exploring its vasodilatory and sympatholytic actions in cardiovascular research, and serving as a standard selective Y2 receptor agonist in competitive binding assays and functional studies to characterize novel Y2 receptor ligands.

3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT

Neuropeptide Y (13-36) is a research compound, not a clinical drug. Its efficacy is defined by its critical role as a selective pharmacological tool. Research utilizing this fragment has been fundamental in mapping the distinct functions of the Y2 receptor, separate from the Y1 receptor. The understanding gained from such studies has validated the Y2 receptor as a promising therapeutic target.
