Neuromedin U-25 CAS NO.312306-89-1

<p>Neuromedin U-25 is a biologically active 25-amino acid neuropeptide primarily expressed in the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. This peptide is a potent endogenous ligand for Neuromedin U receptors (NMUR1 and NMUR2), playing a crucial role in regulating energy homeostasis, feeding behavior, gastrointestinal motility, and stress responses, making it a key research tool in neuroendocrinology and m…

1.MECHANISM OF ACTION

The peptide exerts its effects by binding to and activating the G protein-coupled NMUR1 and NMUR2 receptors. This primarily triggers the Gq/11 signaling pathway, leading to phospholipase C activation, increased intracellular inositol triphosphate and diacylglycerol, and a subsequent rise in cytosolic calcium. This cascade mediates smooth muscle contraction, modulates neurotransmitter release, and influences hypothalamic pathways that control appetite and energy expenditure.

2.PRODUCT INDICATIONS

Neuromedin U-25 is indicated for research applications in neuroscience, endocrinology, and gastroenterology, including studies of appetite regulation and obesity, gastrointestinal motility disorders, stress and anxiety responses, and circadian rhythm modulation. It is used in both in vitro receptor binding and functional assays (e.g., calcium flux) and in vivo models to investigate its physiological roles and therapeutic potential.

3.CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PRODUCT

Neuromedin U-25 is a research-grade peptide and is not an approved therapeutic. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its anorexigenic (appetite-suppressing) effects and ability to increase energy expenditure, positioning the Neuromedin U system as a potential target for anti-obesity drugs. However, its clinical efficacy in humans remains unproven, and no Neuromedin U-based therapies have reached the market, though it continues to be an active area of investigative research.
