About this product
Product information from the supplier.
Activated Carbon derived from coconut shell serves a specialized role in gold mining. Unlike coal or wood-based carbons, coconut shell offers high hardness, uniform pore structure, and minimal fines generation – properties that matter most in carbon-in-pulp (CIP) and carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuits.
The product adsorbs gold cyanide complexes from pregnant leach solutions. Its high surface area (1000–1200 m²/g) and high iodine value (900–1100 mg/g) ensure fast adsorption kinetics and high gold loading capacity. Low attrition resistance means fewer fines entering the recovery circuit. Typical mesh sizes: 5×10, 6×12, 8×16, and 12×30. Other applications include water purification, air filtration, and decolorization – but gold recovery remains the primary specification.
Typical specification: Coconut shell base. Iodine value 900–1100 mg/g. Hardness 95% minimum. Moisture 5% max.
Grades Available: Gold Recovery Grade |Water Treatment| Industrial Grade
Designed for CIP/CIL Circuits – High hardness reduces attrition losses. Low ash content minimizes contamination of pregnant solution. Consistent mesh size ensures uniform flow through adsorption columns.
High Adsorption Capacity – Iodine value up to 1100 mg/g. Fast gold loading kinetics. High resistance to organic fouling.
Laboratory Verified – Each batch tested for iodine value, hardness, moisture, and ash content. COA provided with every shipment.
Flexible Packaging – Supplied in 25kg woven bags, 500kg bulk bags, or 1000kg big bags. Palletized and shrink-wrapped for export, customized packaging is acceptable.
Export Track Record – 13 years in chemical exports. Full documentation for smooth customs clearance.
Gold Recovery – CIP/CIL Circuits
In gold processing, activated carbon is the standard adsorbent for capturing gold cyanide complexes. Our coconut shell carbon is specifically selected for leaching operations. High hardness withstands aggressive agitation in CIP tanks. Low fines generation reduces gold losses in tails. High iodine value delivers fast gold loading – typically reaching 5000–10000 g/ton of carbon.
The carbon is added to leach tanks (CIL) or separate adsorption tanks (CIP). Loaded carbon is stripped, regenerated, and returned to the circuit. Consistent mesh sizing prevents plugging of carbon retention screens. Low ash and low soluble impurities do not interfere with cyanide chemistry.
Other Applications (Secondary) – Beyond gold mining, our activated carbon serves water treatment plants for organic removal, air purification systems for VOC capture, and food processing for decolorization of syrups and oils.
Sodium Cyanide (NaCN) – Essential leaching reagent in gold extraction; mining customers often purchase both
Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂) – Used for cyanide destruction in tailings; complements carbon circuit
Caustic Soda (NaOH) – pH adjustment in leaching and carbon regeneration
Note: Activated carbon is non-hazardous. However, spent carbon from cyanide circuits may contain residual cyanide and require proper handling.
Important – Avoid Contact with Oxidizers
Activated carbon adsorbs chemicals readily. Keep away from oxidizing agents – spontaneous heating or combustion may occur. Store in dry, well-ventilated area. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Contact us for SDS.
