About this product

Product information from the supplier.

Product Overview

Hydrazine Hydrate – also called Hydrazine Monohydrate – belongs to the hydrazine family of nitrogen-containing compounds. Unlike the oxidizing agents described elsewhere, this material acts as a strong reducing agent. Its two nitrogen atoms form an N-N single bond that readily donates electrons, making it valuable for reactions that require reduction rather than oxidation.

The product serves three primary functions: oxygen scavenging (boiler feedwater treatment in power plants), intermediate synthesis (blowing agents for plastics and rubber), and pharmaceutical production (anti-tuberculosis and anti-cancer drugs). What distinguishes Hydrazine Hydrate from other reducing agents is its ability to remove dissolved oxygen down to parts-per-billion levels without introducing solid residues.

Typical specifications: Available from 24% to 80% concentration. Higher concentrations offer stronger reducing power. Lower concentrations provide safer handling characteristics.

Grades Available: Industrial | Pharmaceutical

Why Choose Our Hydrazine Hydrate

Powerful Reducing Agent – Eliminates dissolved oxygen in boiler systems. Reacts with oxygen to form water and nitrogen – no solid residues that could foul heat exchange surfaces.

Multiple Concentrations – 24% and 35% for safer handling and transport. 40% and 55% for general industrial use. 64% and 80% for maximum reducing power in closed systems.

Two Grades for Different End-Uses – Industrial grade for boiler treatment and polymerization. Pharmaceutical grade for API synthesis with tight impurity specifications.

Flexible Packaging – Supplied in 200L drums and 1000L IBC. Smaller packaging available for R&D quantities. All shipments comply with IMDG Code with proper toxic labeling.

Export Track Record – 13 years in hazardous chemical exports. Full documentation ensures smooth customs clearance.

Solutions We Provide

Boiler Feedwater Oxygen Scavenging – Dissolved oxygen causes pitting corrosion in boiler tubes and steam drums. Hydrazine Hydrate reacts with oxygen (O₂) to produce water and nitrogen. The reaction proceeds rapidly at boiler operating temperatures. Our product reduces oxygen levels to below 5 ppb – protecting critical assets from corrosion damage. It also passivates metal surfaces by converting iron oxide to magnetite, a protective layer.

Polymer Blowing Agent Intermediate – Azodicarbonamide (ADA) – a common blowing agent for foamed plastics and rubber – is produced from Hydrazine Hydrate. The reaction creates gas bubbles when heated, giving materials their cellular structure. Footwear soles, insulation panels, and packaging foams rely on this chemistry. Our industrial grade provides consistent purity for predictable blowing agent performance.

Pharmaceutical Intermediate Synthesis – Isoniazid, a first-line anti-tuberculosis medication, is synthesized from Hydrazine Hydrate. Other pharmaceutical applications include certain anti-cancer drugs and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) for depression treatment. Our pharmaceutical grade meets API purity standards with tight heavy metal controls.

Water Treatment Polymer Production – Hydrazine Hydrate serves as a catalyst or initiator for producing certain water-soluble polymers used as coagulants and flocculants. It also reduces metal ions in plating baths and prepares catalysts for chemical synthesis.

Metal Passivation & Surface Treatment – In metal finishing, Hydrazine Hydrate passivates steel and stainless steel surfaces. It removes oxide scales and promotes the formation of protective layers. This application appears in boiler manufacturing and chemical processing equipment.

Related Products & Important Notice

Hydroquinone (C₆H₄(OH)₂) – Another reducing agent for polymerization applications, sometimes co-purchased by water treatment chemical formulator

Sodium Sulfite (Na₂SO₃) – Alternative oxygen scavenger for boiler systems; some customers evaluate both chemistries

Azodicarbonamide (ADA) – Direct downstream product; blowing agent manufacturers purchase both hydrazine hydrate and ADA

Note: Hydrazine Hydrate is a strong reducing agent. Never mix with oxidizing agents – violent reactions occur.

Important – Toxic – Potential Carcinogen

Hydrazine Hydrate is toxic and classified as a potential human carcinogen. Absorbs through skin. Under IMDG regulations, segregate from oxidizers and acids. Use only trained personnel with appropriate PPE. Contact us to plan your shipment.
