About this product
Product information from the supplier.
Among mineral acids, Hydrofluoric Acid occupies a unique position. Unlike sulfuric, hydrochloric, or nitric acid, HF attacks silica and silicates – a property that makes it indispensable for glass processing and semiconductor manufacturing. It also serves as a powerful catalyst in petroleum alkylation and as a pickling agent for specialty metals.
What sets HF apart is its ability to dissolve silicon dioxide (SiO₂), the main component of glass, quartz, and many minerals. This reactivity, combined with its high acidity, enables applications that no other common acid can perform.
Major industrial uses include:
Glass etching & frosting – carving patterns, markings, and decorative finishes on glass surfaces
Semiconductor manufacturing – wafer cleaning, oxide stripping, and silicon etching
Metal pickling – removing oxide scale from stainless steel, titanium, and specialty alloys
Petroleum alkylation – catalyst for producing high-octane alkylate in refineries
Fluorochemical production – raw material for fluoropolymers (PTFE), fluorocarbons, and inorganic fluorides
Ceramic & stone processing – etching and cleaning of quartz, granite, and engineered stone
Our Hydrofluoric Acid is manufactured under strict quality control, with tight specifications for trace metals and impurities – especially critical for electronic grade applications. Each batch is tested for consistent concentration and low contaminant levels.
Grades Available: Technical Grade | Electronic Grade | Reagent Grade
Unique Silica-Attacking Capability – HF dissolves glass, quartz, and silicon dioxide. No other common mineral acid shares this property. This makes HF irreplaceable for semiconductor wafer processing and glass surface treatment.
Multiple Concentrations for Different Processes – Available in 49%, 55%, and 70% strengths. Lower concentrations suit glass etching and metal pickling. Higher concentrations are specified for certain alkylation and fluorochemical processes.
Electronic Grade for Semiconductor Industry – Our electronic grade HF meets strict purity requirements for wafer cleaning and oxide etching. Trace metal content is controlled to parts-per-billion (ppb) levels.
Flexible Packaging Options – Supplied in 2.5L, 5L, 20L, 30L jerrycans (specialized HF-resistant containers), 200L drums, and 1000L IBC. All packaging uses fluorinated or specially lined materials to prevent reaction with the container.
Export Track Record – 13 years in hazardous chemical exports. Our clients include CSCEC and CNPC. Full documentation (COA, MSDS, packing list, commercial invoice) ensures troublefree customs clearance.
Specialized Handling Expertise – HF requires dedicated handling procedures due to its unique hazards. We work only with qualified logistics partners trained in HF transport and emergency response.
Glass Etching & Surface Treatment
Glass manufacturers and finishing shops use HF to etch patterns, logos, markings, and decorative frosts onto glass surfaces. The acid reacts with silica in the glass, removing a precise layer to create the desired finish. Our technical grade HF provides consistent etching depth and clarity – batch after batch.
Semiconductor Wafer Processing
In semiconductor fabs, HF is essential for cleaning silicon wafers and stripping native oxides before deposition or epitaxy. It is also used in buffered oxide etch (BOE) solutions combined with ammonium fluoride. Our electronic grade HF meets the ultra-high purity standards required for sub-micron and nanometer-scale devices. Trace metal contamination is held to single-digit ppb levels.
Metal Pickling (Stainless Steel & Titanium)
For stainless steel, titanium, and specialty alloys, HF is often mixed with nitric acid to create a pickling bath that removes heat scale, weld discoloration, and surface oxides. This treatment restores corrosion resistance and prepares the metal for further finishing. Our technical grade HF delivers consistent pickling action without overetching the base metal.
Petroleum Alkylation Catalyst
Refineries use HF as a catalyst in alkylation units, where it combines olefins with isobutane to produce alkylate – a high-octane, low-vapor-pressure blending component for gasoline. The HF alkylation process produces clean-burning fuel with excellent antiknock properties. We supply HF in dedicated ISO tanks and drums for refinery applications.
Fluorochemical Manufacturing
HF is the starting material for a wide range of fluorinated products: fluoropolymers such as PTFE (Teflon), fluorocarbons used as refrigerants and propellants, and inorganic fluorides like aluminum fluoride and cryolite. Our technical grade HF serves as feedstock for these downstream industries.
Ceramic, Quartz & Stone Processing
Beyond glass, HF etches quartz, granite, and engineered stone. Applications include marking, cleaning, and surface preparation for bonding or coating. The same silicaattacking chemistry applies, making HF the only practical choice for these materials.
Ammonium Fluoride (NH₄F) – Often copurchased for preparing buffered oxide etch (BOE) solutions in semiconductor manufacturing
Nitric Acid (HNO₃) – Used alongside HF in mixed acid pickling baths for stainless steel and titanium
Fluorosilicic Acid (H₂SiF₆) – Another fluorinated acid, sometimes used in water fluoridation and metal treatmen
Note: HF is chemically unique. Other mineral acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric) are not substitutes for HF applications and are not typically copurchased for glass, semiconductor, or fluorochemical uses.
Important – Extreme Hazard – Special Handling Required
Hydrofluoric Acid is extremely corrosive and toxic. It penetrates skin and attacks bone tissue. Under IMDG regulations, HF requires dedicated packaging, segregation from all other chemicals, and specialized transport. We provide full safety documentation including MSDS and emergency response guidelines. Only qualified personnel should handle this product. Contact us to plan your shipment.
