About this product

Product information from the supplier.

Product Overview

Glacial Acetic Acid is the pure, anhydrous form of acetic acid. Its name comes from its freezing point of 16.7°C – below this temperature, it crystallizes into icelike solid flakes. This high concentration (99.5% minimum) makes it a powerful reagent and a polar protic solvent, unlike diluted vinegar or lowerstrength organic acids.

What sets it apart from mineral acids is its ability to participate in condensation reactions while also serving as a reaction medium. Major industrial uses include:

Ester synthesis – production of ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, and other acetate ester

Textile processing – fixing anionic dyes on nylon and wool, pH regulation in dye baths

Rubber coagulation – solidifying natural latex into consistent rubber sheets

Pharmaceutical synthesis – key intermediate for aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and paracetamol

Photographic chemicals – acidifier in developing solutions and fixer baths

Food preservation – acidulant and preservative (food grade)

Our Glacial Acetic Acid is manufactured under strict quality controls. Each batch is tested for purity, water content, and trace impurities – delivering reliable performance for both synthesis and solvent applications.

Why Choose Our Glacial Acetic Acid

Low Water Content, High Reactivity – With minimum 99.5% purity and tight moisture specifications, our product performs consistently in watersensitive esterification and acetylation reactions.

Physical Clarity & Stability – Clear, free from suspended particles or discoloration. Stable under proper storage, with consistent freezing behavior.

Three Grades for Different EndUses – Industrial grade for bulk manufacturing, reagent grade for analytical labs and API synthesis, food grade for condiments, pickles, and dairy applications.

Flexible Packaging Options – Supplied in 2.5L, 5L, 20L, 30L jerrycans, 200L drums, and 1000L IBC. All shipments follow IMDG Code with secure container loading and proper hazard labeling.

Export Track Record – 13 years in hazardous chemical exports. Our clients include CSCEC and CNPC. Full documentation (COA, MSDS, packing list, commercial invoice) ensures troublefree customs clearance.

Corrosive Liquid Handling – Trained in safe transfer, spill response, and segregation of organic acids from oxidizers and alkalis.

Solutions We Provide

Ester Synthesis (Acetate Production)

Ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, and other acetate esters start with glacial acetic acid. These esters serve as solvents in paints, coatings, adhesives, and printing inks. Our lowmoisture acid maximizes yield and minimizes unwanted hydrolysis byproducts – a critical factor for continuous industrial processes.

Textile Dyeing & AfterTreatment

For nylon and wool fibers, glacial acetic acid sets anionic dyes and adjusts dyebath pH. It also neutralizes residual alkali after mercerizing. Processors choose it because it leaves no solid residue on fabric, unlike some mineral acids. Consistent strength means predictable color yield and levelness.

Rubber Coagulation

Natural latex arrives from plantations as a milky colloidal suspension. Adding glacial acetic acid destabilizes the emulsion, causing rubber particles to coalesce and precipitate. The result is clean, uniform rubber sheets without the impurities that sometimes come from stronger coagulants – important for highgrade technical rubber products.

Pharmaceutical Intermediate

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and paracetamol (acetaminophen) both require acetylation steps involving acetic acid or its derivatives. Our reagent grade meets purity standards for API manufacturing. The same grade is also used as a recrystallization solvent in drug purification.

Photographic Chemical Production

In photographic film and paper manufacturing, glacial acetic acid acidifies developing solutions and acts as a component in fixer baths. High purity prevents artifacts and ensures batchtobatch consistency in image quality – a nonnegotiable requirement for this industry.

Food Processing (Food Grade)

Foodgrade glacial acetic acid functions as an acidulant and preservative in condiments, sauces, pickles, and cheese production. It complies with international food safety standards and is supplied with appropriate certification for food contact.

Related Products & Important Notice

Formic Acid (HCOOH) – Another organic acid, often copurchased for leather tanning and textile applications

Ethyl Acetate (CH₃COOC₂H₅) – Direct ester derivative, commonly ordered alongside glacial acetic acid as a finished solvent

Acetic Anhydride ((CH₃CO)₂O) – Complementary acetylating agent for pharmaceutical and chemical synthesis

Note: Strong mineral acids (sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric) differ fundamentally in chemistry and application. They are not typically copurchased with glacial acetic acid for organic synthesis.

Important – Segregation Required

Glacial acetic acid is corrosive and has a flash point of 39°C (102°F). Under IMDG regulations, it must be separated from alkalis, oxidizers, and strong mineral acids. Contact with oxidizers may cause violent reactions. Store away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Contact us to plan your shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Answer

Why is it called “glacial”?

Because it freezes at 16.7°C (62°F), forming icelike crystals.

What is the difference between glacial acetic acid and regular acetic acid?

Glacial is the pure, waterfree form (99.5%+). Regular acetic acid is diluted with water (30–80%).

Will it solidify during shipping in winter?

Possible. Warm the container to room temperature before use – the product returns to liquid without any loss in quality.

Can it be used in food production?

Yes – we supply food grade for condiments, pickles, and dairy applications.

How is it packaged for export?

2.5L–30L jerrycans, 200L drums, 1000L IBC. Hazard labels and IMDG compliant.

Do you offer samples?

Yes – sample orders available for process testing.

Lead time?

15–20 days after order confirmation, quantity dependent.
