About this product
Product information from the supplier.
Sodium Hypochlorite is a chlorine-based oxidizing agent widely used for disinfection and bleaching. Unlike hydrogen peroxide which breaks down into water and oxygen, Sodium Hypochlorite releases chlorine as its active species. This chlorine chemistry makes it particularly effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and algae.
The product serves three primary functions: disinfection (drinking water, wastewater, and swimming pools), bleaching (textiles and paper pulp), and cleaning (food processing equipment and hard surfaces). What sets it apart from other oxidizers is its residual effect – chlorine remains in the treated water, providing ongoing protection against recontamination.
Typical concentration: 10% – 15% available chlorine. Custom concentrations available for specific applications.
Grades Available: Industrial | Food
Broad-Spectrum Disinfection – Effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and algae. Provides residual protection that continues working after initial treatment.
Multiple Strengths Available – Lower concentrations for swimming pool treatment. Higher concentrations for industrial bleaching and municipal water disinfection.
Food Grade Offered – Suitable for food processing equipment sanitation and aseptic packaging rinses.
Flexible Packaging – Supplied in 2.5L–30L jerrycans, 200L drums, and 1000L IBC. All shipments comply with IMDG Code with proper corrosive labeling.
Export Track Record – 13 years in hazardous chemical exports. Full documentation ensures smooth customs clearance.
Drinking Water Disinfection – Municipal water treatment plants dose Sodium Hypochlorite to kill pathogens before water reaches consumers. The residual chlorine protects throughout the distribution network. Our food grade meets drinking water standards.
Wastewater Treatment – For final disinfection before discharge, Sodium Hypochlorite eliminates bacteria and reduces coliform counts. It also oxidizes hydrogen sulfide, eliminating unpleasant odors from sewage treatment.
Swimming Pool Treatment – Pool operators rely on Sodium Hypochlorite to maintain chlorine residuals that keep water safe for swimmers. It kills algae, bacteria, and viruses while preventing cloudy water.
Textile Bleaching – In textile processing, Sodium Hypochlorite bleaches cotton and linen fabrics. It removes natural color bodies efficiently. After bleaching, an antichlor treatment neutralizes residual chlorine.
Food Processing Sanitation – Food grade Sodium Hypochlorite sanitizes equipment, conveyor belts, and food contact surfaces. It also rinses aseptic packaging before filling. No rinse required at proper concentrations.
Cooling Water Treatment – Industrial cooling towers add Sodium Hypochlorite to control biological growth. It prevents biofilm formation on heat exchange surfaces, maintaining thermal efficiency.
Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂) – Alternative oxygen-based oxidizer for facilities that require chlorine-free treatment
Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda) – Often used alongside for pH adjustment in chlorination systems
Sodium Bisulfite (NaHSO₃) – Used for dechlorination after treatment where residual chlorine is undesirable
Note: Sodium Hypochlorite is chemically distinct from acids. Mixing with acids releases toxic chlorine gas – never combine.
Important – Reactive Chemical – Segregation Required
Sodium Hypochlorite decomposes over time, especially when exposed to heat, sunlight, or contamination. It reacts violently with acids (releasing chlorine gas) and with ammonia (forming chloramines). Under IMDG regulations, segregate from acids, ammonia, and organic materials. Store in cool, shaded areas. Contact us to plan your shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Question | Answer |
What concentrations do you supply? | 10% to 15% available chlorine. Custom available. |
What is the shelf life? | Degrades over time – typically 3-6 months depending on storage temperature. |
How is it different from hydrogen peroxide? | Chlorine-based vs oxygen-based. Sodium Hypochlorite leaves residual protection. |
Can it be used for drinking water? | Yes – food grade meets drinking water standards. |
How is it packaged? | 2.5L–30L jerrycans, 200L drums, 1000L IBC. IMDG compliant. |
Do you offer samples? | Yes – sample orders available. |
Lead time? | 15–20 days after order confirmation. |
