Product Overview

Ammonium Hydroxide – also called Aqueous Ammonia or Ammonia Solution – reaches its highest purity in reagent and electronic grades. Reagent Grade (AR and GR) supports analytical chemistry where volatile alkalinity offers unique advantages. Electronic Grade serves semiconductor manufacturing where trace metals destroy device yields.

What distinguishes ammonium hydroxide from fixed alkalis like sodium hydroxide is volatility. Excess ammonia evaporates completely, leaving no solid residue. This property matters for applications where residual salts cannot be tolerated. AR meets analytical reagent standards. GR offers tighter impurity control. Electronic Grade removes trace metals to parts-per-billion levels.

Typical specification: 25% – 28% NH₃ by weight. Low carbonate and low residue after evaporation. Each grade ships with a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis.

Grades Available: AR | GR | Electronic Grade

Why Choose Our High-Purity Ammonium Hydroxide

Certified Purity, Fully Traceable – Every container includes a COA documenting actual metal content and non-volatile residue. You receive verified data for your quality records.

Three Grades for Different Applications – AR for routine pH work. GR for stricter analytical requirements. Electronic Grade for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

Lab-Ready Packaging – Supplied in 500mL, 1L, 2.5L, 5L bottles. Vented closures prevent pressure buildup.

Export Track Record – 13 years in chemical exports. Complete documentation supports your quality system.

Solutions We Provide

pH Calibration and Buffer Preparation – Analytical laboratories use reagent ammonium hydroxide to prepare pH calibration standards for basic buffers. Its volatile nature leaves no residue on pH probe surfaces – unlike non-volatile bases that require thorough rinsing between measurements.

Metal Complexation in Analytical Chemistry – Ammonium hydroxide forms soluble complexes with many metal ions including copper, silver, and zinc. Reagent grade is used in qualitative analysis to separate metal groups and in quantitative methods for metal determination.

Electronic Grade Cleaning (Semiconductor) – Electronic Grade Ammonium Hydroxide is a key component of SC-1 (Standard Clean-1) solution, mixed with hydrogen peroxide and water. This mixture removes organic residues and particle contamination from silicon wafers without introducing metal contaminants. High purity prevents device defects.

Residue-Free pH Adjustment – Applications requiring pH adjustment but cannot tolerate residual salts specify ammonium hydroxide. The ammonia evaporates during drying or heating steps – unlike sodium or potassium hydroxide which leave permanent residues.

Non-Aqueous Titrations – Reagent ammonium hydroxide serves as a base for non-aqueous titrations of weak acids. Its solubility in organic solvents expands titration options beyond water-based systems.

Pharmaceutical Quality Control – QC laboratories test raw materials using reagent ammonium hydroxide for pH adjustment and metal complexation. Batch-specific documentation supports regulatory inspections.

Related Products & Important Notice

Ammonium Chloride (NH₄Cl), AR/GR Grade – Salt form often used alongside ammonium hydroxide for buffer preparation

Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂), Electronic Grade – SC-1 cleaning solution partner; semiconductor customers purchase both

Hydrochloric Acid (HCl), AR/GR Grade – Used with ammonium hydroxide for pH adjustment pairs in laboratory work

Note: Reagent and electronic grades differ from industrial ammonia solution. Never substitute industrial grade in analytical or semiconductor work – metal impurities and residue levels will not meet requirements.

Important – Volatile – Irritating Vapors – Fume Hood Required

High-purity ammonium hydroxide releases ammonia vapor, especially when heated. Use in fume hoods. Store in cool, well-ventilated areas with vented closures. Segregate from acids (violent neutralization), oxidizers, and heavy metal salts. Contact us for SDS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Answer

What is the difference between AR and GR?

GR (Guaranteed Reagent) has tighter impurity specifications than AR (Analytical Reagent).

What is electronic grade used for?

SC-1 wafer cleaning solution component and semiconductor manufacturing.

Do you provide COA with each bottle?

Yes – each lot has a Certificate of Analysis.

What packaging sizes are available?

500mL, 1L, 2.5L, 5L bottles.

How does it differ from industrial ammonia water?

Certified purity, low non-volatile residue, batch traceability, and lab-friendly packaging.

Why does it smell so strong?

Ammonia vapor is volatile. Use in fume hood.
