The inside is a black foam tray with slots cut into it, not a flat pad. A ring sits in a narrow slot, a pair of studs sits in two small holes, and a chain lies in a long channel. The foam is cut to the inner size of the box, so the tray sits flush when it is put in. The cut can be redrawn for your own piece, so the slot matches the shape you sell.

The box is built on a stiff board, wrapped in kraft paper, with a layer of flocking over the foam inside. The flocking is black, and it is the surface the jewellery sits on. Two materials meet here: paper outside, and foam and flocking inside. The paper and the foam are the only materials, and a small box is light to post.

- Kraft: the plain paper tone, with the fibre showing.

- Black card: a flat black face, with no pattern on it.

- Faux leather: a fine grain pressed over the board.

- Diamond pattern: a grid of small diamonds pressed into the lid.

- One piece: a single ring or a pair of studs goes out in its own box.

- Posting: a small box goes into a mailer without extra packing.

- At the counter: the boxes are set out one by one, and a customer picks one up.

- A set: three or four pieces can be split across boxes of the same style.

The same box takes one piece or several, depending on how the foam is cut. A single ring box is small enough to hold in a hand. A larger box takes a necklace, or a ring with a pendant. Sizes are set from the jewellery you sell, rather than from a fixed list.

Our factory cuts the foam, prints or presses the outside, and folds the box, all on one order. The tray can be cut for a ring, a pair of studs, a bracelet or a necklace, in any mix. A mark can go on the lid, in one colour, or pressed in as a relief. A paper card or a small bag can be packed with the box, so the set leaves the shop complete.
